The habit
It is the routine most of us were given, and it comes from a good place. But a dose given on the calendar treats a worm nobody has looked for.
Medicine your dog may not need.
Every dose is a drug through a healthy gut. Given only when a test calls for it, it is a treatment. Given by habit, it is a hope.

Worms exposed to the same drugs every month, everywhere, learn to survive them. Testing first keeps the treatments working for the dogs that need them.
Who reads the results
I am Alastair Greenway, one of the two vets behind ConciergeVet. I built the Worm Check for our own patients first, because I was tired of prescribing on the calendar. Every result comes to me before it comes to you, and when something is found I write the note myself.
We will tell you plainly when testing is not enough. Some dogs should stay on monthly lungworm prevention, and for them that is the right answer.

The honest part
Lungworm lives in slugs and snails and can make a dog seriously ill. A test can find it, but cannot stop it, and it can take six to ten weeks to show. So the Worm Check treats lungworm as its own decision, dog by dog.
Prevention stays.
Young dogs, slug and snail eaters, and any dog near a known case keep their monthly lungworm prevention. Testing replaces the guesswork for everything else.
The test joins the kit.
A lungworm test goes in with every kit, from the same sample. The vet talks it through with you first.
Testing alone, with your say-so.
With no risk factors, you and the vet can agree to test without monthly prevention. We say clearly that testing detects and does not prevent, and what to watch for.

Start the planThe lungworm test, for dogs in the middle tier, is priced separately. New customers see it as an optional add-on when they order. Clients agree it with the vet, and any treatment is prescribed and charged as an ordinary veterinary fee. If you are new to us, your own vet stays in charge of treatment and lungworm prevention, and we send them the result if you ask.

Ask a questionA monthly wormer treats worms your dog may not have. A test tells you whether there are any, so treatment goes to the dogs that need it. Fewer doses for your dog, and less pressure on the treatments still working for everyone else.
Lungworm is different. A test can find it but cannot prevent it, and an infection can take six to ten weeks to show. So we do not guess. The risk check puts your dog in one of three tiers: monthly prevention stays, a lungworm test joins the kit, or, for a low-risk dog with your agreement, testing alone. The vet confirms the tier with you. If you are new to us, lungworm prevention stays with your own vet.
A small scoop of fresh poo into the pot, lid on, into the prepaid envelope. Royal Mail collects it from your doorstep on the day we book, so there is no trip to the post office. If your dog has the lungworm test, a second pot takes a heaped teaspoon from the same sample.
The vet reads the result before you see it. You get an email that says what was found and what happens next, and a call first if your dog needs treating. Clients get treatment prescribed by us. If you are new to us, the email says what to ask your own vet for.
Not yet. The first version is for dogs. Cats are on the list once the dog service has run for a season.
Fifty-five pounds per dog, per test, every three months. That includes the kit, the postage, the collection and the vet’s time reading the result. There is no contract. New customers pay by card online, as a plan every three months or a single kit, and can cancel the plan online. Clients are billed to their account as usual.
