Two situations we see most. Both need a plan that is built, monitored and changed by someone who knows the case.

Meet Claire

The Painspan method

An unhurried conversation about your pet's routine, medical picture and the rhythm of your daily lives.

01/05
Close the full care journey

Painspan starts with time. An unrushed, in-depth consultation where we take in the whole picture: your pet, your home, your worries, your hopes. Whether it's the first time your vet has mentioned 'chronic pain', you're noticing changes others haven't yet or you're wondering whether behavioural shifts might have an underlying pain component, we listen first, and then plan together.

At every step, we keep the whole picture in view: concurrent conditions, the context of daily life, pet personality, behaviour, emotions and the demands on carers. We look past the pain and the problem list to the pets and the people beyond.

Meet

An unhurried conversation to understand your pet's routine, medical picture and the rhythm of your daily lives. You may opt for us to visit you at home, so we can see your pet behave, move and interact naturally within their familiar environment.

Measure

Choosing the best means of assessing pain is personal to your pet and their experience of pain. Objective gait analysis tools (Pawscheck, for dogs), structured pain scoring built on the published veterinary pain literature and repeated on a schedule (Sightline), plus good old fashioned hands-on examination experience are all there for your pet's benefit.

Manage

Together we create a pain management plan that suits you and your pet's needs and lifestyles. It will look at the whole pet and be multi-modal, taking all the 'best bits' of pharmacology, complementary medicine and physiotherapeutic options, balancing individual response and impact with pain relief and enjoyment of life.

Monitor

Regular check-ins to track developments in mobility, comfort, additional medical conditions or life in general. Your insight and observations are a crucial part of this and we help you become confident in taking small but effective guided decisions and actions around your pet's day to day care.

For as long as you need us

We walk beside you and your pet through good days, hard days and every step in-between. We stay in touch as your pet’s needs change, you can ask Claire questions between appointments, and we review the plan together.

Led by

BVM&S MRCVS ABVA · Veterinary surgeon

Claire is a veterinary surgeon holding the WSAVA Certification in Pain Management, gained in 2026, and is a Council Member of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists. She qualified in 1997.

Her early veterinary experience spanned farm, equine and the charity sector in the UK and abroad, with the majority of her medical, surgical and emergency work being in small animal practice.

Her interests developed from a desire to enhance the quality of daily life for pet families living with chronic pain and mobility issues in a way that is focused, effective and kind on the bodies of older patients.

Painspan Remote

The Painspan method, delivered remotely.

Sightline scores for dogs and cats, plus Pawscheck gait analysis for dogs. A veterinary surgeon reviews the trends and reports to your usual vet.

Your own vet keeps responsibility for examination, prescribing and treatment. Remote monitoring is scheduled; it is not continuous observation or an emergency service.

Keep your usual vet.

Many practices already offer pain management and follow-up. Our focus is dedicated pain care and structured monitoring between appointments, working alongside the vet you trust.

Your practice remains your point of contact for routine care. Out of hours, clinic patients have our affiliated emergency service; Remote members keep their own. For clinic patients, we share significant changes to the care plan with them.

Where specialist care fits.

Some pets need specialist investigations, procedures or surgery. We recommend referral when appropriate and work with specialists on ongoing care.

Between vet appointments

A simple question. But you’re trying to remember weeks of walks, sleep, medication and good and difficult days.

Your usual vet knows the medical history. You see what happens at home. Those observations matter, even when you’re not sure what they mean.

A little less, a little more often.

A shorter walk. A pause at the stairs. A cat choosing a lower place to sleep. When did it start, and is it happening more often?

Is this worth a call?

Yesterday was difficult. Today seems better. You’re trying to make sense of the changes and decide what to tell your vet.

It’s hard to remember it all.

Something you noticed on a walk may not happen in the consulting room. Dates and notes give you something concrete to discuss.

Changes can have different causes. A record helps you describe them; your vet can help assess what they mean.

Free record · No card needed

When your vet asks how things have been, you don’t have to start from memory. Keep your pet’s comfort, movement, weight and medication history together, from today.

  1. Record what you notice.Add your pet and make a check-in: your own scores, plus notes about life at home.
  2. See it over time.Your scores are plotted by date, with the medication changes you record marked on the chart.
  3. Read about the condition.Name your pet’s condition and the record opens plain reading about it.
  4. Take it to your vet.Download the record as a PDF to bring to an appointment or share with your practice.

Coming to the clinic later? Bring it to your first appointment, and Claire starts from dates instead of memory. If you join the clinic, the record comes with you.

Questions, answered

Wondering if the clinic is right for your pet? A veterinary surgeon reads every enquiry.

Tell us about your pet Veterinary surgeon? Refer to the clinic

No. Painspan complements your existing general veterinary care by providing focussed, comprehensive chronic pain assessment and management. If in our findings and through discussion with you, we decide that further diagnostics such as x-rays or blood samples would be beneficial, we direct you to your GP vet to have those specific tests. If we decide together that more specialist diagnostics and interventions are warranted, we discuss options and can facilitate referral.

Many vets provide pain management and follow-up. We offer dedicated pain care and structured monitoring between appointments. Remote adds scheduled veterinary review alongside your usual vet; clinic care adds assessment and treatment with Claire. Your usual practice continues routine care.

Specialist pain clinics offer interventional procedures like nerve blocks, joint injections (intra-articular), regenerative medicine techniques and other advanced diagnostics and treatments by association with a wider, on-site team of RCVS/EBVS anaesthesia, imaging and surgical specialists. We provide the care and co-ordination between those appointments, with continued observations and supportive treatments.

Painspan is designed for pets with chronic or recurrent pain conditions where an in-depth assessment, ongoing monitoring, functional tracking and multi-modal, holistic management would support better quality of life. If you're unsure, talk to us about your pet's specific needs. We'll be transparent about whether this service is appropriate.

No, we contact your primary care vet to ensure communication is open between us regarding your pet's current clinical situation. We request information about relevant history and current medications, then provide a report so that everyone is kept in the loop.

It depends on the programme. Painspan Remote does not prescribe. Your own vet keeps clinical responsibility and prescribes, and we send them what we see. In the Pain Clinic, your pet is under our care, so we can take on prescribing for chronic pain, including controlled medication where appropriate, after a hands-on examination. We give you a written prescription so you can choose the most cost-effective pharmacy. For safety, you will have access to our affiliated out-of-hours emergency service, and we may ask for an occasional blood test from a GP vet if your pet is on long-term medication.

The clinic is not an emergency service. Pain Clinic patients have access to our affiliated out-of-hours emergency service. Painspan Remote members keep their own practice and its out-of-hours provider as their first call. We confirm your pet's arrangements in writing at the first appointment.

Greenway Veterinary Acupuncture provides acupuncture on a referral basis from your GP vet. This is when your pet has undergone full assessments and diagnostics with your main vet and/or specialist, has a full management and medical plan in place and you and your pet's care team would like a regular acupuncture session added in or continued. Acupuncture may be a part of the Painspan treatment plan but Painspan embraces the whole field of pain and mobility management.

Yes. We coordinate with physiotherapists, hydrotherapists, osteopaths and other practitioners to ensure we maximise each other's expertise. We help integrate therapies into the broader management plan and monitor how rehabilitation exercises and physiotherapy strategies are working in the context of daily life.

No. The free account is for your own notes, medication history and check-ins. It does not include clinical review, monitoring or advice. You can download the record to share with your vet. Veterinary review is part of our paid services; Painspan Remote currently has a waiting list.

Membership runs month to month, with no minimum term or exit fee. You can stop with a month's notice. The one-off £350 Complete Care Assessment includes your first recheck, whether or not you join. If you leave, we send your pet's pain scores and gait reports to you and your own vet.

Monthly Sightline scoring and Pawscheck gait analysis, reviewed by a veterinary surgeon, plus video check-ins, letters to your own vet and as much conversation with Claire as you need. Medication, additional rechecks and home visits are charged separately.

Cover depends on your policy. Ask your insurer about assessment, recheck, medication, acupuncture and membership fees. We provide itemised invoices and supporting information for your claim.

Contact Claire if you notice a change. We review your observations, pain scores and gait reports to decide whether the care plan needs to change. If you are worried about your pet's quality of life, we make time to discuss that with you. Out of hours, Pain Clinic patients use our affiliated out-of-hours emergency service; Painspan Remote members contact their own practice or its out-of-hours provider.

Your practice receives a letter after each significant change to the care plan. Your own vet continues to provide routine care, and we keep any specialists involved informed.

Painspan is our method: Meet, Measure, Manage, Monitor. Sightline scores how your pet feels, Pawscheck measures how a dog moves, and a veterinary surgeon reviews the trend and adjusts the plan between visits. Painspan Remote delivers it alongside your own vet. The Pain Clinic delivers it with Claire, including assessment and prescribing.

Home visits cover London and the South East, from Oxford to Essex. Further afield, Painspan Remote will provide monitoring alongside your own vet. Its waiting list is open; it is not taking new members yet.
